How to Identify a German Roach Problem

If you’ve dealt with cockroaches before, you know that no matter their size, shape, or color, they’re an icky pest to have roaming around your home. German roaches can be identified by coloring that is light brown to tan with two dark, almost parallel stripes located on their backs. Their bodies are an oval shape and can range anywhere from ½” to ⅝” in length.

It may seem unbelievable but you can have a cockroach infestation without knowing it. If you don’t see pests around your home but notice the following, there’s a good chance you’re dealing with an infestation.
  • Mild, “musty” odor
  • Dark-colored droppings that look like pepper or coffee
  • Fecal staining or smears in the corners of rooms

How to Prevent a German Roach Infestation

German cockroaches thrive in damp environments that offer easy access to food. This makes your kitchen, especially under the sink, a top target. Keep food in airtight containers and your counters and floors free of any random food scraps that may have been dropped or left behind. Trash should also be kept in a can with a lid and disposed of regularly. A clean home can not only prevent a roach infestation, but it can help improve the effectiveness of a treatment you’re receiving.
