The American Cockroach can be identified by the reddish color with a yellow band around their head.
The German Cockroach: These cockroaches will find their way into your home via your pant leg, grocery bag, cardboard box, etc. Once inside your home they will then look for a warm place to make their “home.” The most common places you will find them will be in your kitchens or bathrooms. The German Cockroach can be identified by their light brown color as well as the racing stripes located behind their heads.
So Why Are They a Threat?
The number of cockroaches that are in your home can be beneficial in knowing the potential threat that they carry. The larger number of cockroaches in your home the greater threat they pose. They are threats due to the 33 types of bacteria they carry on their bodies; E. coli and Salmonella for example, parasitic worms and pathogens. They are also known for causing asthma attacks to those with allergies.
